The week after MacRae's Birthday all the kids started getting runny noses. Teagan then developed a nasty cough. I had stayed home with the girls while Stu took MacRae to baseball on a Monday night. I was playing with both of them on the floor when Teagan started breathing funny, and kind of labored. When Stu got home as few minutes later he took her to Instacare, while I put Peyton and MacRae to bed. They did a chest X-ray to check for pneumonia, but it came back negative. They said it was just a virus and that she should get better in a few days. But she didn't and she pretty much stayed them same for the next two days.
On Wednesday morning Peyton woke up with an eye that looked like this, and a nasty cough. After her morning nap she woke up screaming and I could not get her to calm down. I gave her some Motrin and she calmed down a little as long as I held her. She is always such a happy baby, so I knew something was wrong with her. Stu came home early from work so we could take them to the Dr. We dropped off MacRae at Grandma Heathers and took both girls in. Peyton had double ear infections and double eye infections, and Teagan had an ear infection and respiratory infection. They put the both of them on a stronger antibiotic so we wouldn't have to put drops in Peyton's eye and so Teagan wouldn't get eye infections.
We then picked up MacRae on our way home, and as he was walking out of Grandma's his ear started leaking fluid, and he was crying because his ear hurt. We took the girls home and fed MacRae, and then he and I went to Instacare. He had an ear infection too, along with a cough and runny nose.
So all three kids were miserable. The girls have never been on an antibiotic before, so it did not sit well with their tummy's. A few days on the antibiotic they started with the worst diarrhea. They both were pooping themselves and their beds several times a day. This then gave them both the most horrible diaper rash. When we put them in the tub they would just cry, because it hurt their little bums so bad. The antibiotic also made Teagan throw up, so on top of the diarrhea she would throw up at least once a day. Neither one of them could breath out of their noses and were coughing none stop, and not sleeping good either. Since MacRae has tubes in his ears, we just had to put antibiotic drops in his ear, but his made the ears leak fluid nonstop. It seriously looked like honey dripping out of his ear. He hated the drops since it made him not be able to hear very well, and then it hurt when he had to get the wax cleaned out several times a day.
Needless to say we were a mess. Kids were crying all day, Stu was at work, I was washing loads of laundry a day, and my Mom was out of town. I have never really felt depressed, but I for sure was. Poor Stu got multiple calls a day from a crying wife and crying kids. Since Stu had to be at work it was just me to take care of them. I have never missed or wanted my Mom so much. It was so hard and exhausting to take care of three miserably sick kids all day with no help. It took us almost 3 weeks for all 3 kids to completely get better and for the diarrhea to stop. I have to admit I got as lot of things done at home since we couldn't leave for ever, but it was horrible. This was honestly the worse virus. I am so glad that my kids are so healthy and hardly ever get sick, because it was so hard to watch them all suffer. I always feel so helpless when my kids are sick and there is nothing I can do for them. I love these three more that life itself and I am glad they are better.
